Lost socks

This week was an uneventful one with no major mishaps, falls or injuries. Thursday was a holiday so I took an extra day of vacation leave on Friday as I needed to catch up with a few things. Even though I was still busy on my day off I managed to enjoy lunch in the sun and do some house-hold shopping.

Socks are evil. They get hidden in sleeves, sheets, pillow cases and even in pockets. My socks are even worse as they are generally brightly coloured. The only time I wear socks is when I carry out some form of exercise. Something that I do regularly is running, not the kind of running that you do on the road, though the kind of running where a little pink sock finds itself in the pocket of a ‘handle with care’ kind of shirt and careful runs its pink colour on the cuffs. For this reason I prefer to wear my better-half’s socks so that I can shift the blame on his socks.

Another issue that I have with socks is the mystery of the lost socks. I am convinced that my washing machine has Hermes, a Greek god, hiding inside my washing machine stealing my socks. I make sure that they go in as a couple, however they still seem to emerge as single socks. I have tried to find several solutions for all the single socks.

Optimistic that one day they will be reunited as a pair, I have created a sock institution where I place all the mismatched socks. I have also taken the following advice from people:

1. Buying a bunch of the same coloured socks-This eliminates the need for matching socks since they will all be the same. Apart from being extremely boring, the songs were still reducing.

2. Buying socks with the days of the week written on them (cliché). Out of these socks there is only Monday, Friday and Sunday left as a pair.

3. Next trial was to buy socks with different coloured toes-They are still relatively new so I’ll have to see how long they last as a couple.

I have decided to tackle the issue from a different angle and make sure that I keep looking for the lost sock until they are hung next to each other. To make this job easier I decided to purchase a sock-hanger.

The one I bought is square-shaped plastic sock-hanger that has 24 pegs and cost 2 Euros-I am not particularly fond of the colour but for 2 Euros I wasn’t going to be picky about the colour. After my usual laundry duty I started hanging the socks and snap–oops One of the pegs snapped and this went on until I was down to just 12 functional pegs- i.e 6 pairs of socks.

Having a sock hanger is very useful; however I wish I had spent a bit more money on a better quality sock-hanger-Whilst I am still mad at Hermes, I have finally accepted that this is the way that it is going to be- I, or rather my better half is going to have a lot of mismatched socks- Unless I get my hands on a sock-clip.
